3 Ways We’ve Transformed Our Weekends
In the whirlwind of our busy lives, weekends often become a fleeting blur of activities, chores, commitments, and playing catch-up. We’ve found three simple practices that have transformed our weekends into a time of peace, intentionality, and rejuvenation.
Sharing Expectations and Intentions
Our weekend begins on Friday afternoon/evening with a simple question: "What are your expectations for this weekend?" This question serves as a touchstone for us to share our individual desires and plans for the weekend ahead. By aligning our expectations early on, we can avoid potential conflicts and ensure that both of us feel heard and valued.
This practice extends beyond our relationship and into our interactions with family, friends, and even ourselves. Sharing expectations with those we'll be spending time with allows us to set a positive tone for the weekend and prevent miscommunication.
Observing the Sabbath
For us, the Sabbath begins on Friday night and extends into Saturday. While we may not always observe it for the entire duration, even a partial Sabbath leaves us feeling more recharged and connected. During this time, we intentionally limit our screen time, focus on meaningful activities with our daughters, and engage in worship and reflection.
The concept of the Sabbath is not just about resting after a long week, but about starting the week with a full cup, ready to pour into others. This intentional rest at the beginning of the weekend sets the tone for the days ahead and allows us to enter the new week feeling refreshed and rejuvenated.
Planning for the Week Ahead
On Sunday evenings, we sit down and plan for the upcoming week. This includes looking at our schedules, thinking about meals, and preparing as best as we can for the week's potential chaos. This practice not only helps us stay organized but also allows us to approach the week with a sense of purpose and direction.
By incorporating these three practices into our weekend routine, we have found that our weekends have become more than just a break from the week. They have become a time of intentional living, where we can connect with each other, recharge our spirits, and prepare for the week ahead.
